At 70-something degrees this afternoon, I decided to open the front windows to get the fresh comfortable air flowing indoors from the shaded side of the house.
About thirty minutes later, I started hearing loud noises out front.
Really loud noises.
The street pavers have shown up on what is, so far, the most beautiful week of the summer to repave our road. They had done the other side of the street a few weeks ago, so we knew our turn was coming.
I must admit... my first inclination was to be annoyed. Really!?! The first day in months we can throw open the windows and we get all this noise and stinky smell of asphalt filling the house?!?
And then I decided to be thankful for such a first-world problem.
And my camera.
And the sense to take some pictures.
And then I was super tickled to see two little boys a couple of houses down, waving and pointing, who quite possibly are experiencing a real highlight of their week. Big noisy trucks working right in front of their house for at least a couple of days - as late as the pavers got started today and by the time this work is finished. The boys waved to the drivers; the drivers tooted their muffled horns. 😊
My heart is taken back in time to my own three little barefoot boys - who delighted in big noisy trucks.
Life is good.
A bit stinky for a few days...
But good.
Oh yes, little boys and trucks are a perfect combination. Especially when those who drive those trucks appreciate little boys and respond in kind. What a great story (too bad about the noise and stink, but the end result will be worth it).
ReplyDeleteIt will be nice to have the road all freshly paved (though there are much worse roads in town). For some reason we're on the schedule and no one asked my opinion. So I will smile and give a little wave at the workers knowing they are making life better for us all. Except that the panreatic cancer stickers on the large white vehicle cause me to take pause. As the rest of us are wearing our simple little cloth masks, something tells me these guys should be wearing some serious respirators...
DeleteBeautiful memories. I will admit to being a bit jealous of you being able to open your doors and windows to a nice cool breeze. I was happy to see our morning temperature below 90. Does that count? LOL
ReplyDeleteIt really is a sweet memory when I see little boys that take me back to those days some twenty-thirty years ago (oldest is 31, youngest turns 25 in a couple of months). 90 degrees doesn't count for anything other than miserable in my estimation - I don't care if it's a dry heat. 90+ degrees makes me melt. ;^)
DeleteThe two boys are probably so excited to have any excitement after being locked down for so long. So while it would have been annoying to me I know little boys would love it. I can't even imagine 70 degrees. IT will be ages before we see that again. It is really really really hot right now, but I like summer so I am trying not to complain about that too much:)
ReplyDeleteIt's rare when we get 70-anything degree days in late July or August, so it's a real treat. Temps dipping into the 50's tonight and that's perfect sleeping with window-open-weather in my book!
DeleteOh so sweet . . . the memory of your boys being thrilled with the big machines! How time flies. I am ever amazed.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cool snap! Our air is a little cooler but not less humid so we continue to keep those doors and windows closed.
It's just been beautiful here this week. One more day of this truly mild weather and the temps start to climb again. But if the humidity will just hold off a bit longer, it really should be a lovely weekend, too.
DeleteMy grandson would love that! He gets so excited to see the garbage truck
ReplyDeleteThey worked so quickly, it wasn't a very long show. But those machine trucks were awesome - even to me. :)
DeleteYour mind works like mine and is constantly "readjusting" to find the blessing. It reminds me of my sons too...they did love those big, noisy trucks! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI wish I'd learned to do this readjusting or attitude more quickly when I was younger. Life is fast becoming too short to be frustrated all the time. :^/ Says the lady who still gets frustrated way too easily. And often.
DeleteThat is cute to envision...those little boys getting to see big trucks doin their thing.
ReplyDelete;^)
DeleteYes, a boy's dream! So good of you to look at the positive.
ReplyDelete:)
