I hope everyone in the U.S. had a terrific Thanksgiving. Good times were had here, with family gathering and me experimenting a bit with lasagna and making persimmon pudding for the first time ever. Recipes for those will come soon, hopefully.
In the last week, a Little Sheep Virtues (by Little House Needleworks) cross stitch project was completed, and I finished it and a companion piece into small pillows.
Holiday (any holiday) decorating around here is fairly simple, but it makes me happy to find easy ways to display some of my handwork.
Except for the Little Sheep Virtues pillows, I believe all the above patterns came from old Cross Stitch Magazines that came into my possession a few years ago. Those turned out to be a treasure trove of cross stitching goodness. Wait a minute... now that I think about it, I believe those "quilt" pattern ornaments may have come from a homemaking magazine - Good Housekeeping or Better Homes and Gardens, perhaps. I don't know if those magazines exist today, but it's been decades since either (or both?) of those publications printed things like cross stitch patterns and other crafts. Do any of you in your 60's and older remember making craft projects from those magazines?
I can't believe today begins the countdown to Christmas! It's only just in the last few days it's finally turned cold here, and that we've finally gotten hard frosts - several days in a row since Thanksgiving. About a month late for these parts. Or, at least, that's the way I remember it. But the tree is up and decorated, and I'm committed to being in the Christmas spirit!
What lovely stitching projects you have completed. Such a talented stitcher.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteYour basket of projects is so sweet and they look so pretty nestled in the greenery. Both Better Homes & Gardens and Good Housekeeping still exhist but don't think they've had craft projects for many years. They're mostly ads now.
ReplyDeleteMary Anne, when Better Homes and Gardens finally had more ads than content, I stopped subscribing. It made me sad because for years I really enjoyed perusing BH&G Magazine.
DeleteI do think Better Homes & Gardens still do some crafty things (here at least in Oz) although they might be special editions. Definitely knitting ones. Our weather is getting Christmasy too, we heard cicadas the other day.
ReplyDeleteAsha, your comment spurred me to checked my shelves and I found two cross stitch books and one crochet book by Better Homes and Gardens. I've been known to snatch up these kinds of books when I see them at Friends of the Library sales. I recently culled through my craft books and rehomed a bunch. I imagine I had a few more BH&G books before I did that.
DeleteCongratulations on your projects! Love the display, too. :)
ReplyDeleteNice you spent Thanksgiving with family. Praise God.
You all be safe and God bless.
Thank you, Linda. 🩷
DeleteLove your cross stitch pillows. The basket is a cute way to display seasonal pillows. I'm kinda looking forward to Christmas shopping (online) when I get to Florida. That's the only way it will seem like Christmas when it's 70 degrees outside.😝
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maureen! And safe travels!
DeleteOh, these are lovely Becki. And seasonal pillows are the sort of "seasonal decor" that are unusual enough to pique my interest.
ReplyDeleteThanks, TB! :)
DeleteI love these, Becki! Beautiful work! And I love your idea of displaying them in a basket. I most often see them in wooden dough bowls, which I like but do not own. The basket is a nice and affordable alternative.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mrs. T. You know, I saw "dough bowls" in Hobby Lobby this fall. I thought about buying one when they were half price, but I didn't. The next time I stopped in, they had sold out. I missed my opportunity to have a relatively inexpensive, if fake, dough bowl. I was tickled a few days ago when I realized this little basket would do the trick of displaying a small collection of these little pillows. It was free! :D
DeleteLove the pillows, Becki. From where I sit, your year of projects has been a smashing success. And you are way ahead of me with the Christmas tree. Wife and I just putting away all the Thanksgiving dishes tonight (Dec. 2nd) with a goal of the tree going up by end of the week. Slow but steady.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bob! I was so relieved that I put the tree up and decorated it the day after Thanksgiving when I looked at the calendar and saw we only had 3 1/2 weeks 'till Christmas. It is my habit to take the tree down and put decorations away no later than the weekend after Christmas (sometimes, I take things down the day after). 3 1/2 weeks is almost too short of a time to have bothered to decorate.
DeleteThe little sheep ornaments are lovely and the collection on a theme are so cute displayed together. Liz (highlandheffalump)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz. 🩷
