While I await the arrival of a small stitching stand I've ordered (for my scroll frame), I decided this week to pull out a little Christmas cross stitch I had kitted up a month or so ago:
Cute, simple, and goes with the other small Christmas designs I've made recently.
And while I wait for a sale on the lilac colored yarn I'm using (and need more of) for my Leaping Stripes Blanket, I'm presently contenting myself with knitting dishcloths. I almost always have a dishcloth going in the background as it's something I can just pick up and mindlessly work on while catching up on podcasts, or sometimes listening to audio books. While I knew I was cranking them out fairly quickly, I'm amazed that I completed 19 cloths during the shortest month of the year:
And earlier today some of the extended family gathered to celebrate my Mother-In-Law's 89th birthday. She's doing well after recovering from a heart attack in early February, and a second stay in the hospital (a week later) when her blood pressure was elevated. It was a beautiful day to celebrate a lovely lady.

Take heart, if you're in the northern hemisphere --
spring is right around the corner. I'm sure of it!

I hope you all have a good week!
Your MIL looks like a beautiful soul - happy birthday to her. The little house reminds me of the one I grew up in - fun. You've done well to knit that many dishcloths in a month!
ReplyDeleteBefore moving here (almost 22 years ago) we lived in a red sort-of-colonial style house - built in the 1980's, though - and with aluminum siding. ;^) Still, it was my favorite house of the ones we've lived in - partly because it was red.
Delete19 dishcloths!!! I am duly impressed. Your cross stitch is so cute. Hope your scroll frame arrives soon. Your MIL looks fantastic for 89. What a blessing for her to have such a loving family surrounding her for her special day.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't she look amazing? :)
DeleteWow, that’s a lot of dishcloths, and not the tiny size I make. The Christmas cross stitch is looking lovely. I should probably start this early in the year to add things for Christmas in the mix.
ReplyDeleteMine are only about 7.5 inches across (and maybe 8 inches tall because they shrink in height when washed and dried). These don't feel tiny to me, but they're smaller than many patterns make. I've finally found the perfect dishcloth size for me. When I make a washcloth for face and body, though, I make them much larger (up to 10 inches). Those do take quite a bit longer to make.
DeleteI am so impressed with your dishcloths! I remember when you were learning to knit and making dishcloths to practice. Now you can just knock them out in your spare moments.
ReplyDeleteAren't you glad you stuck with learning!
Thank you! I've saved my earliest knitting attempts just so I can feel good about how far I've come, but honestly... I don't knit anything complicated at all. My tension and stitch consistency got much better, but I'm not expanding my mind much on knitting technique. I'm not sure if that will change in time or not. :)
DeleteWow - the dish cloths are looking great. What yarn do you use for them.
ReplyDeleteThanks! For these I've used either Lily's Sugar 'n Cream, or Pisgah Peaches & Cream. I can't tell a difference between the brands. There may also be some cloths in there made with Premier Home Cotton (it has 15% polyester added to the cotton and feels slightly softer than the others). But knitted up, and especially after being washed, they all handle about the same.
DeleteThe cross stitch is perfect. The dishcloths too. We certainly can't have idle hands, can we?
ReplyDeleteYour mother-in-law looks wonderful for 89. It looks like she has some more years in there.
Thanks, Sandy. And yes, MIL looks great. It's hard to believe she was recovering from a heart attack and stint surgery just a few weeks ago.
DeleteWhat a beautiful 89 year old! Happy Birthday to her! I love your little cross stitch and look at all those wash cloths! You have been very productive! I love the leaping stripes blanket too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sam. There were times in February I felt like I was just a dishcloth making machine. lol I don't know why. Partly, I'm motivated to move cotton yarn out of my stash. And partly, I simply wasn't motivated to do larger projects - probably because of my shoulder. It's still a bit touchy, depending on how I treat it.
DeleteI have caught your dish cloth mojo but i have only knit 8 since 21st of feb. I am going to cast on a tea towel next. Love the cross stitch kit!
ReplyDeleteYou'd be amazed at how many I've knit so far this month - and only half-way through March!
DeleteWow, what a lot of dish cloths! And I echo everyone else's sentiments about your mil looking amazing for 89 and recovering - good on her!
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteYour MIL looks good and what a delicious looking cake.
ReplyDeleteIt was delicious. Kroger Italian Wedding Cake!
DeleteGlad to read about her birthday and that she's recovering well.
ReplyDeleteLove your creative side too. Hi. I'm Ivy and I'm new here.
