I haven't ignored my crocheting completely, though. I'm enjoying getting back to my second Spice of Life Blanket:
I do love these colors. They put me in the mind of autumn.
And a blogger last week took a picture of some wonderful vintage pattern books she recently obtained and that reminded me that I had a similar treasure I unearthed a few weeks ago when helping set up for a Friends of the Library booksale.
All these vintage crochet magazines and pamphlets pictured above, and four really cool knitting books:
I'm a sucker for old pattern books. While I've earmarked several patterns I think I might try to "modern up" a bit, even if I never actually make anything from these books, the pleasure I get just browsing through them is enormous. While there is a nostalgia factor, for sure, I also find inspiration in browsing these old books. I wonder what things inspire a creative mindset in you.

Oh I do the same thing when I go to the literacy councils used book store here or another thrift store I like. I look through all the knitting/crochet/cross stitch books and it is usually hard to limit myself to just a few since I am already short on shelf space. I have that big book of knitting book and I love finding the magazines with doily patterns. Your blanket makes me want to roll around in some leaves. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour spice of life blanket is just wonderful. I can see someone cuddled up in it, by a fire, readding a book and having a warm beverage. Good find on the vintage books. I have some 100 year old doily pattern books from an adopted grandma. I truly cherish them. I dont even try and modern the patterns up as I feel the originals are perfect.
ReplyDeleteI think I will take a photograph of my vintage patterns. We could start a new thread!
ReplyDeleteLove your blanket - so happy and colourful and it looks yummy warm!
What treasures you got! It pays to volunteer! LOL! My greatest inspiration come from podcasts now and YOP. Seeing what others are working on and planning gives me so much joy. I like Pinterest too for inspiration. As for your blanket....it's on my list! I love yours. Do you have a color scheme as I love the colors you chose. Did you follow Cherry Heart's pattern and colors? I love yours and I want to be just like you when I grow up! LOL!

ReplyDeleteI have no vintage patterns, but seeing others makes me wish I did! I love your blanket, the colours are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat blanket that you are making is gorgeous. I love the colors and I love how each row is a different stitch, that adds so much interest and texture. You are so talented.
