More hats...

Not a lot going on this week except having some plumbing repaired.   The good news on that front is that every single faucet in the house has now been replaced (and a couple have been replaced for the second time).  Counting the repeats, that's 9 faucets!  Eleven, if I count the two outside faucets.   That is over the course of 20 years, though, so it's not as bad as it first sounds.

A not-very-busy-week meant I got to spend a fair amount of time knitting and crocheting hats.   They are accumulating for the hat drive coming up in less than a month.

I do love the ease of the Benefaction Hat pattern.  I still enjoy making it:

And after digging through my stash for some self-striping yarn I think I'm going to enjoy making even more.  The following is Deborah Norville Everyday yarn in the colorway Red Rocks:
I am of course complicating things by removing that beige-y pink color (you can barely see it up there in the wound-up ball).

I'm looking forward to trying out a few more self-striping yarns I just happened to have single skeins of.

And I do still love a crocheted hat.  I made another Stepping Textures hat in a gold yarn:

When I get them all done (some will need pom poms) I'll try to create a collage of all the hats.  For now, some teaser pictures will suffice.

    1. I can't decide which hats I prefer. For boys and men I'm pretty sure the preference will be for simple knitted hats. I, OTOH, love texture and I'm able to get that better with crochet. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about fit. These will be distributed (or picked) according to the recipient's head sizes and preferences so my hope is that all the varied sizes, colors and styles will eventually find a head.

    1. I like the gold one, too. I'm hoping to do a few more with interesting colors.

  3. There will be some very thankful people for your talent. I am looking forward to seeing a collage of all the hats when you get them all finished.

  5. Love the hats - that’s a lot of warmer heads, thanks to you! I don’t love self-striping yarn for hats because I don’t love the widening of the stripes at the crown decreases... I end up manually striping them to get them matching. Of course that might just be my OCD acting up ;-)

    1. You know... I anticipated that with this yarn, and was sure I'd end up doing more manual striping at the top, but oddly, it all went pretty smoothly for me this time. We'll see how my other self-striping yarns behave. I do think, though, that, in the end, I may be too OCD to work contentedly with self-striping yarn, too. And I should probably plan to only use it in the middle of a hat - and use another yarn for the brim, and bottom & top of the body of a hat. It will certainly go further that way. ;)

  6. The hats all look lovely Becki, well done on getting so many done and still going with them! I love the look of the self striping one and the yarn is actually lovelier with the beige out of it!

    1. With the hat finished, I have to agree - that beige-y pink was not attractive at all.. Now, I just can't decide if it needs pommed or not. Each of these hats is a learning experience.

  7. Your collection of hats is definitely growing! I, in a fit of most-likely stupidity, decided that I should knit a pair of socks. We'll see how THAT goes!

  8. Nice hat FO's. Wow, nine faucets replaced? That is some work done there. Glad you're happier with the changes and it all went smoothly.

    1. Well, they've all gotten changed over time because of old leaky faucets so it wasn't really about being happier, but rather that we needed working faucets. That said, I do think our faucets are prettier than what we started with. :)

  9. Aren't hats such a satisying make? And it sounds like yours are for a good cause, too!

    1. Yes, Maria - on both counts. Very satisfying and hopefully a worthy cause. I've been looking and haven't seen the donation boxes around this year. I guess I can hand-deliver them to the organization doing the distributing (on their website I can see that they're collecting them again this year), but I've so enjoyed the anonymity of collection boxes.

  10. Your yellow one is even prettier than the blue in my opinion! Have you seen the furry pom poms that are so popular now? https://www.etsy.com/listing/635856065/white-faux-fur-pom-pom-small-3-inch-faux

    1. I have some brown fur I'm planning on making into pom poms for the hats (and scarves) that I think will go with that color. I made a couple last year and found it messy to work with, but I think I will try it again assembly line style this year (make it a little more worth the mess).
