More small things...

Some things I'm working on...

Marsha Leftycrafter recently shared with me the DW David Waltrip Dishcloth pattern and after a few rows I fell in serious like!  I especially like how this stitch pattern plays with variegated yarns:

Thankfully, the pattern has been archived here.   I have way too much variegated kitchen cotton yarn I bought that looked pretty in a ball, but worked up is sometimes less than I hoped for.  This stitch pattern hasn't disappointed me yet when using a short-segment-variegated yarn.    The pattern is quick. It's easy.  It's fun!

~~~~~
I also made a little progress on a Fairly Islelish Cardigan (baby sweater):
I'm heading into making the yoke where I will introduce another shade of gray in the stripe pattern (or another color).  I'm open to suggestions on a contrast color.  I want this to be suitable for a boy (though I'm having second thoughts about how well this pattern truly suits a boy - more on that when I'm finished).  And I am going to finish this.  I think.
~~~~~

And I started this:

But... as okay as that looks, I'm fairly unimpressed.  I think I'm going to rip it out as soon as I finish writing, and start this pattern.  The yarn I'm using is pretty nondescript so I'm thinking I need to make something fun with it.

And lastly...

Someone's having a birthday this week!

I'm turning 60 and I'm actually kind of excited about it.  I know... is that weird?  Getting older is sometimes for the birds, but there's something about this milestone birthday that has me kind of eagerly anticipating what's next in life.

I'm still trying to figure out how to ring this birthday in and it may, in the end, be very low key ('cuz I'm a pretty low key kind of gal), but I'm hoping my birthday this year lives up to the anticipation I'm allowing myself to have for it.  So wish me well in that.

To see what other YOPers are up to

  1. OMGosh, an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! LOL on that gif; I love her cards. I think the new-intended pattern will be so much more fun than your first try with that minty yarn.

    1. It is! What was I thinking making a simple back and forth stitch pattern?!? Can't wait to show what I've gotten done by next week.

  2. Becki, you cracked me up with the birthday cartoon. This is a milestone birthday you are going to have. Live it up!!!! I agree with the mint green yarn being worked into the hexigon blanket. It has much more interest in it. The baby sweater is coming along quite fine. I like the white you added into it. Why not use that for the yoke too? I am so glad you like the DW dishcloth pattern. It is perfect for variegated yarns. It is a quick knit. Have a great week!

    1. I've started the hexagon blanket already and I do like it. I'm adding grey to the mix and I think I'm going to really like it!

  3. I love your attitude about turning 60. I have loved being in my 60s so I hope you find the perfect way to celebrate. Tattoo? Piercing? Cheesecake? Just a few ideas! I love the baby sweater. I am thinking maybe I could teach myself to crochet left handed while I am unable to knit. What do you think? If left handed crocheting even a thing?

    1. lol - yeah, I was thinking more like cheesecake. :) Left handed crochet IS a thing! If I remember correctly they just follow the crochet instructions going the opposite direction. So everything turns out the mirror image of the way a design typically works up. You know... the one to ask would be Marsha just above. I'm thinking her handle "Leftycrafter" means she's know a thing or two about this topic. Good luck if you try it!

  4. Happy birthday for this week, that’s great you managed to find the archived web page with the pattern, as I’d tried to find it and couldn’t. Have a wonderful birthday week and good luck with your left handed crochet.

    1. Oooh... so glad I posted the link! I actually found that another Raveler had the link on her project page. I, myself, don't know how to find archived files, but I need to figure that out. Thank you for the birthday wishes!

  5. Happy birthday Becki for this week! I hope the day and indeed the year ahead is all you want and more!
    Love the cloths and how the variegated works with the pattern, it is so hard to find a pattern that makes variegated yarns look good!
    How about a different shade of blue to go with the cardigan but I do think a different shade of grey will also work.
    Love the Hexagon blanket and think it is a little more fun than the one you were currently crocheting, will you use different colours as well or just the one?

    1. Thank you, Ruth! I've added gray to the light minty blue and white. I think it's a nice subtle, yet modern combination.

  6. Your baby sweater is gorgeous, I think grey is a great choice as it looks brilliant and will suit boy or girl. Also the hexagon blanket looks lovely, I think you made the right call.

  8. Okay...I'm all over the new dishcloth pattern! Thank you! I've already printed it off. I have a big dislike for pooling so this pattern will be great! the little sweater is so cute! I think the gray will be fine...you have way more color sense than I do.
    You are 10 years younger than me so you can use me as a barometer for aging! LOL! Please send me your full name and address at slicher@centurytel.net ........the birthday fairy might have a little surprise for you! Happy Birthday!!! I have to say that there were certain milestones that I noticed aging but 60 wasn't one of them. It was 50 and this last one at 70 so now I figure I'm good to go until 90! LOL!

    1. I can hope I have half your energy when I hit 70, Sam! You are one of my inspirations, friend. I agree that the 50's had some challenges (but I suspect, for a variety of reasons it's a decade where even the most healthy of persons tend to have issues). In some very real ways I feel better today than I did through most of my 50's. Not amazing, mind you, but better. :)

  10. I'm late to the party (as usual) and perhaps I've missed the cake. Sigh. Hope your birthday was celebrated in grand style anyway! Turning a 'number' birthday has never bothered me. I remember when I turned 30 being told that it was a traumatic thing, as was 40, 50 and 60. So far the trauma hasn't happened so perhaps it's waiting until I hit 70 and will whammy me but good!
