It's been a good week here. Lots happened, lots still ahead to do, of course. I'd love to share about the process of settling an estate, but me thinks it wise to hold off for now. A number of things fell into place, some things still dangle out there sort of in process, some waiting for their moment. All in all, it was a good week.
It was such a busy week, I only managed to crochet a bit in the evenings when I settled down to some youtube fare. Sometimes catching up on world events, sometimes enjoying the happy creating of other crafters.
It almost seems silly to post, since I'm sharing so little, but in the spirit of keeping up with the camaraderie of my blogging buddies, I'll share a progress picture of the chevron blanket I'm working on:
I'm close to the half-way mark, so that feels good. I changed my mind about the pattern of graduated white chevrons. I concluded it was going to have too much white if I made the largest white section as large as the blue sections (which was my original intention), so I corrected course and decided to simply repeat the graduated widening of the white sections starting with just one ridge, then two ridges, and finally three ridges - then repeating it again. Then (I think) I'll make the second half a mirror image of the first half. Though, I may end up changing my mind about that too.
No tag today. I've learned that the tag challenge is always released on Friday and, this time, since I was unable to work on it on Saturday, I may from here on out just set myself up for making the tags at my leisure anytime during the 7 days following the release of the challenge. Which means I'll share this past Friday's challenge next Sunday. And that may be the way it flows from here on out. We'll see. My intention is for it be a fun diversion, not a task I have to do.
After unseasonably warm weather last week, it's turned cold and snowy today again. It's not a pretty blanket of snow, but instead it's kind of raggedy looking with the grass showing through. No complaints here. I'm thankful for every single non-bitter and clear-road day we have here - this winter in particular, with all the driving we're doing.
And that, dear reader, is all she wrote! 😉
Always good to see your progress and I tend to think that not having too much to write about can be a good thing:)
ReplyDelete;^) I have a lot I could write about, I'm just choosing not to. And yes, I think it's a good thing for now. :)
DeleteI like the way you are doing the white stripes. I think it adds interest. It is nice to have a relaxing hobby for the evening isn't it. Feel productive while relaxing. It doesn't get better than that!!
ReplyDeleteYes, especially something that is really pretty effortless - well, effortless beyond making decisions about things like the width of the white chevrons. It will be effortless until I get to the half-way point and I have to think about how the second half should go.
DeleteYour yarn colors are always so vibrant and lovely. I think your idea about the graduated white stripes is a fine one! I repeat my projects from week to week as I can't possibly have a finish every week...although it would be nice! It's just always nice to hear how you're doing in life. Hugs ~ Sam
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sam. My son gets credit for these colors. He picked them out then told me he trusted me to figure out how to put them together. :)
DeleteI'm glad to hear you had a good week, even though in many ways it perhaps wasn't the 'good' you deep down would have liked. However, we should take the good whenever and however it happens. Seeing your blanket reminds me of the one I once made that was in greens (I got so sick of it that I ended up adding granny squares in several rows just to break up the monotony). My kids used that as their 'sickie blanket' all through their childhood. Oddly neither one of them wanted it when we moved here so it went by way of the thrift store I think.
ReplyDeleteYour green blanket sounds fun. I like to imagine when people find hand made things in thrift stores, they squeal over their good fortune. :)
DeleteLove the chevron blanket! The way you have designed the white stripes definitely does add interest. Thanks for stopping in to show your progress and give a bit of an update for the week. That's something I need to get in the habit of doing.
ReplyDeleteI crocheted simple hats for 10 of the grandkids this Christmas season and then my hubby wanted one too. Just started on one for myself. That's been my mindless project while watching YouTube regarding world events.
10 hats for Christmas! That's great! I have several hat patterns I enjoy making, but looking back I think I only made one hat last year. Maybe 2021 will see more. ;^)
DeleteBecki, I always look forward to your posts. You may think they contain much info but I just like hearing about your week. Whether it contains crafting or not. It's Ike catching up with a friend each week.
ReplyDeleteI do like the way you are placing the stripes on your son's afghan. The colors he choose are so pretty together. As for the tags.....I am fascinated by them. But, I agree, they should not feel like a chore to do.
Hopefully, the estate you are finalizing will he done soon...for your sake. That is always such a chore to do.
Have a great week, Becki
Thank you, Marsha. :) It will take most of this year before the estate is finally closed, but the biggest push is here at the beginning. And it's starting to feel a bit more orderly at least.
DeleteI like the variation of the white stripe widths and it adds more interest and contrast to the blanket. With all that you have on your plate at the moment it makes sense to fit the tags around your own schedule rather than the prescribed one. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI think the changing widths of white will add interest, too. I hope I'll feel confident about how to proceed with the second half (whether to mirror the first half, or just continue with the pattern I established with the first half). Open to suggestions and I'm really hoping I manage to do it without a lot of crocheting and frogging. ;^)
DeleteI'm glad that you have had a better week, things always seem to resolve themselves in time but sometimes that seems never ending. The blanket is coming along great, I love the way you have contrasted with the white, the decision process is what keeps it interesting. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think it's all the stuff hanging there, each waiting for it's own time to be dealt with is what was causing the constant distraction of the past few weeks. As things are starting to fall into place, it's easier to trust the process and stop feeling like I have to keep all the things in my mind - or even on the same list. Also, at the beginning, things just come at a person. Things that have to be done. Decisions that have to be made. I made lists everyday, but a phone call could make that day's list pointless. I learned pretty early I had no actual control over many of the things on the list. And that just added to the anxiety. Also, having repeated conversations with my siblings kept things churning over in my mind. I've (hopefully) figured out a way to keep everyone in the loop, seek input at appropriate times, and minimize some of the unnecessary "churning". Even figuring that out was a process. All these things together are the "working out" of what you say... "things always seem to resolve themselves in time".
DeleteLove the look of that blanket and I agree about the white. Repeat what you have rather than increasing the white.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elaine! :)
DeleteGlad to hear that it was a good week for you! I'm sure it feels good to make some progress in a very big task. May the Lord continue to give grace for the day!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cheryl. :)
DeleteSo happy to hear that you had a good week and that things are coming together with the estate and all. I am also glad you are finding some time to craft in the evening and I hope the youtubes you are watching are fun and relaxing and not all about the woes of the world. Take Care dear Becki.
ReplyDeleteWell, sometimes I do watch the woes - and the ridiculousness that too often passes for news. But then I do a palate cleanse with something like The Last Homely House. Kate is wonderful.
DeleteBeautiful, I like the pattern balance you achieve with the white yarn.
ReplyDeleteHave a relaxing week
Thank you, May. :)
DeleteSo neat how those chevrons are coming out. Glad it was a good week for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stef.
DeleteThe thing about estates, even relatively simple ones,is that there are so many processes to follow, and often one can't be done till others are. Then there's waiting. I think that's the hardest part.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile your crochet is lovely, interesting distribution of colors and shapes. I'm glad you have that to pick up in the evening.
I'm looking forward to getting to the waiting. The long summer of waiting I think it will be.
DeleteThanks for your update. I always enjoy your posts!❤️
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks Susan.
DeleteSpending some time to yourself unwinding from the day is SO important. I'm glad you are making that time for yourself. The blanket is turning out really nice! I love what you have so far. I am excited to see what color pattern you decide on for the next half!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing what the second half will look like, too!
DeleteHi Becki :) Your blanket is really nice and cozy looking! Busy times here too! :)
