A little finish...

Wednesday of last week I wrote an update about what's been going on in my little corner of the world. There was lots of Spring evident, a couple of birthdays celebrated, a sister visited, and my brother's house sold!  All very good things.

And then, yesterday I set myself to finishing this little project:

The May pattern of the Joyful World series

Using a fabric in my stash (that once was in my MIL's fabric stash), I made this cute little stitch into a pillow.    Now I just need a few dozen more little pillows and I'll have a display-worthy collection.  At the rate I stitch, I may have that collection done by say...  the end of the decade.  😄

This next little bit is for my reference mainly, but if you're interested in the materials used, read on.  I used a combination of called-for Gentle Arts Sampler Threads, and DMC floss. The cats are stitched using various shades of DMC grays, and I turned what was originally a white bird (a dove, maybe?) into a bluebird.  Fabric for the stitched part is 18-count Aida from Picture This Plus - in the colorway, Sterling.  Stitched 2 over 1 on 18-count Aida, the design measures 5.25" x 4".  Just right for a small pillow.

And that's pretty much all I've got on this beautiful late-April Sunday afternoon!

    1. Given the color of the fabric I chose, the bluebird is defintely a better idea than a white bird. I was tickled with how well it turned out.

  3. Such a cute May pillow. It would be fun to have a calendar of them and display the month's pillow as part of a centerpiece or decoration by the TV.

    1. I do hope to someday complete them all and enjoy switching them out as the months go by. :)

  4. It's so cute! I think it's a lovely idea to display the pillow of the month, if it takes a while to complete them all it doesn't matter, it's great you got this one finished before the beginning of May. Have a great week. x

    1. I have a small little easel around here somewhere that I think will be a perfect way to prop it up on a shelf. If I can't find that, I'll find another way to display it. I'm so happy with myself that I got it finished before the end of April!

  5. That little pillow is so precious! I printed off her patterns at one time but where they are now is a mystery. Probably buried in my craft room somewhere. Thank you for sharing your fabric and colors. I need to be better at that as I so appreciate it when others do. Enjoy your Spring!

    1. Oh good. I wonder if some find that kind of information tedious, but seeing as I hope to make 12 of these, and want them to have some similarity in the materials used, I thought it a good idea to record it somewhere. This is the only place I'm not likely to lose the information. :)

  6. I love it! The kitties turned out SO adorable. Using part of your MIL's stash is also really fantastic, and is also quite pretty in its own right.

    1. I feel so blessed to have inherited so much pretty fabric from my MIL after she passed last year. And what I have is a fraction of the total she had. Others were smiliarly blessed.

  7. This little project is darling! I think you should find some way to display it (on a shelf? in a bowl of potpourri?) and not wait until the end of the decade. Who has time for that?!

I'm sure the trip with your sister and sale of your brother's house was bittersweet. It's good that you were able to find the "sweet" in it all. Life is so full of sunshine and shadow.

    1. LOL! I didn't really mean I wouldn't display this one all by its lonesome, but I do have this idea that I'd like a bowl full of little pillows to display someday. Being about as slow as molasses makes me think I might accomplish that within 10 years or so. Let's hope I'm seriously underestimating my abilities and motivations. ;^)

    1. I'm rather amazed at myself that I finished a project in time to enjoy it - all in the same year. :)

  9. The cat and kitten cushion is so lovely. Perhaps one of my favourites you've done so far, but I am a cat lover so pretty biased.

    1. I'm fairly fond of cats myself. It's been years since we've had one, though.

  10. Such a sweet pillow. The backing fabric is precious and even more so since it came from your MIL stash.

    1. Thanks, Mary-Anne. Isn't it incredible that it's almost May?!? The pillow is just slightly larger than 5x4 inches.
