Still breathing...

So...  about a month and a half ago, when I wrote my last post, I was full swing into packing for a move, and now well into December we're snug in our new place, but with still too many unpacked boxes to deal with.

It's been quite a ride - getting our new place ready to move into, all the while finishing packing, taking the move in stages, putting our home of 23 years on the market, and two days ago we closed on the sale of our old place.

It has been an exhausting whirlwind, and I can't tell you how glad I am that we are only responsible for one house again.   We've been sleeping in the new place for nearly four weeks now, though how that much time has passed already I haven't a clue.  I suppose things like an unplanned doctor visit, some tests a couple of weeks ago (that didn't show any problems, but also didn't explain some annoying things), a son having surgery in November and our helping him out for a few days, and Thanksgiving that, in the end, didn't happen (due to a couple different COVID exposures among the invited), combined with taking care of issues at two houses... I'm sure it's all messed with my sense of time...

And somehow I've gotten a sore knee in the process of moving and I feel like I've aged 10 years, but other than that, it's all gone swimmingly.  😅

I'm looking forward to life eventually resuming some normalcy, eventually getting back to some crafting, and catching up with my blogging buddies.  I know I've missed a lot in the last month or so, but I hope to catch up a bit with what's been going on with my favorite bloggers - even though I probably won't be fully back in the swing of blogging for several more weeks, I'm guessing.

I hope you're enjoying this season and all that it brings.  This Advent, I'm feeling a real sense of joy seeing the signs of Christmas, hearing carols, and ultimately being reminded of Jesus' birth, and the great gift of salvation God offers to all through his Son.  I'm looking forward to our first Christmas in our new home, and even seeing the first winter snow fall on our new yard, though I wouldn't mind if that holds off until January, and I hope it falls when I don't have to go anywhere.  😉

I have nothing of note really to write about in any detail.  And while I've been exceedingly busy and productive, the house is still too disheveled for me to want to share pictures, and I don't know when or if I'll be decorating for Christmas, or even getting back to my crafting.  Unpacking my crafting stuff is pretty low priority at the moment.

I've really only come in here to let my blogging friends know that I am doing well and I haven't abandoned blogging, I'm just taking a hiatus.  I will start popping into blogs here and there, and expect to be back in the swing of blogging again myself before the year is completely over.

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

  1. So good to see your blog again. I figured you were overloaded with the move and unpacking. Sounds like you have had more than your share of "adventures" the past few weeks. Hopefully normalcy will set in soon for you.

    1. Yes, the "adventures" of moving have just been the half of it. Merry Christmas, Marsha!

    1. Aww... thank you, May. It has felt good to start visiting blogs again. That's probably all I be able to manage for the next couple of weeks. I've missed the blogging scene over the last nearly two months.

  5. I'm so pleased that you are safe in your new home and that your previous home has sold a huge burden lifted! Just take things slow and go with the flow everything will eventually fall into place. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. xx

  6. Well you've certainly been busy!! I'm glad you're somewhat settled and hopefully can enjoy a quiet, peaceful Christmas! We hope to be moving in about four years and believe me, I am already on the "purge" . . . creating new piles for Goodwill every week and getting rid of things on our local free site as well. Looking forward to Christmas here as well!

    1. Four years to purge before a move sounds about right. I've been doing it for a couple of years, but it was complicated by deaths of two family members, and bringing many of their things into our home to also go through and rehome. The purging will continue in our new place. Probably for years...

  7. So glad to hear from you! I was disappointed there were no pictures of the new digs but happy you are safe and well! How exciting....a new home doesn't happen very often in life. I always loved the first week or so when the new house smells new and you have a blank slate to decorate and make your own. Enjoy! But don't overdo! LOL! Merry Christmas!

    1. Oh, Sam... I've tried to be clear, but I wasn't in this post. We did not move into a brand new house. Just a new-to-us house. It's 30 years newer than the house we moved out of, if that counts for anything. And it's been updated in several important places (kitchen and master bath). Neither hubs, nor I have ever had a desire to have a house built. Way too many decisions, and based on the experience of friends we know who've done it, more headaches than either of us care to endure.

And we're living with the paint scheme the previous owners used. It's not exactly my style, but interestingly, our furniture goes with it. So we're living with it for now and may paint in a year or two (or paint a room at a time). Unpacking, and hopefully winterizing a strawberry patch and an asparagus patch, is all I think I'll manage before Christmas.

  8. I know how nice it is to get settled in a "new" home. We did that almost three years ago. From a 5 acre homestead to a little village ranch style home. I do miss my homestead a bit, the chickens especially, but we like our new place too. It overlooks farmland out back and someone plows the snow off the street in the front. We even have a garage for the car and a 2 car garage out back for my hubby's shop. Good luck on your settling in and Merry Christmas in your new home.

    1. Your situation sounds perfect. We would have loved to have found such an arrangement. We were wanting a one-story ranch, but we found what we both liked in a country neighborhood. It's not 5 acres, but it's a big lot, with a garden and a second detached garage. The challenge will be to continue downsizing our stuff, rather than fill that second garage. ;^)

  9. I’ve been thinking about you and how you’re settling in to your new home, so I’m glad to read an update. Don’t worry about catching up on blogs, that must surely be lower priority than unpacking your own crafting supplies and as you say that’s not a priority. We will be here when you are ready. Have a wonderful Christmas in your new home.

    1. Yeah... I think catching up is probably impossible at this point, but it does feel good to reconnect with people. Even that adds a bit of normalcy to my life right now. Merry Christmas to you, too, Liz!

  11. My! What a lot you have accomplished! I stand amazed. Take it easy on your knee. Sore knees come and go with me so I know how annoying they are. Our Thanksgiving was a bit disappointing as well with the concerns of the times. Everyone came through with flying colors so we are grateful in the end.

All the best as you plug along getting your new home in order.

    1. This sore knee seems to come and go, so I have hope for now that it's just overuse and with some rest (eventually) it will heal up. Time will tell... I hope your Christmas is a good one, Vee!

  12. Oh my goodness . . . as if moving itself is not enough of a challenge, it sounds like there were a few challenges along the way. Well, it is definitely a process that cannot be hurried. I am happy that you are finding joy in this wonder-filled season!! EMMANUEL ~ God With Us! That thought never ceases to bring wonder!

    1. There have been some challenges, but probably not more than most people experience when buying and selling houses. Some repairs are being dealt with on this end, and we needed to make a few repairs on the old house after the inspection - that's never fun. It's a relief to have all our stuff at one property, and not feel like I need to keep cleaning supplies and some tools at the old house - just in case.

  13. So happy to hear from you and I resonate with your feelings about advent and the joy of looking forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus. I am glad you are nestled all snug in your new home and I am sure soon you will find the box with all your crafting goodies and be once again yopping away. Merry Christmas dear one, Merry Christmas.

    1. The box - I don't know if it was your intention, but that got a good laugh out of me. I have a whole room of crafting stuff. My crafting stuff is just very low on the priority list of things to sort and store. I'm getting there, though. It will probably be after Christmas before I make significant headway, but I think I'm beginning to see the light the end of the unpacking tunnel.

  14. Becki!!!!!!!! So happy to read a post! I'm relieved for you that you are settling into your new home. Moving is so tough! We're here just a year and a half now and we are still trying to figure out how this house will function for us!! ♥

    1. Hi Rain! I can see that getting used to a new house is a real process. This early process is all about just unpacking. I have a feeling we'll take years figuring out our new patterns, and where best to put stuff. Twenty years in one place was a long time to set some patterns and habits that now need re-routing.
