Thanks to all who gave feedback on my blanket project. I've decided to put it on hold until I get with my friend for her to weigh in on it again. Comments helped me see some ideas I didn't think about, and also made me feel a little more confident of the colors I'm working with. I appreciate it.
While waiting to get back to the blanket, I've given myself permission to start a small cross stitch project I found in an older (February 2015) Just Cross Stitch magazine. I have found some gems in old craft magazines - which is good and bad. It's fun, because the ideas are so old, they're new again. It's bad because it feeds my hoarding tendency of all things crafty... Do you relate?
While Valentine's Day was the inspiration for picking this pattern to work on, and the variegated thread color, I think the finished project will look fine through the spring and summer months displayed with other colorful small projects. Do I have those other colorful projects done? No... But this may just inspire me to begin that collection. 😉
We're warming up here for the next week to temps in the 50's and 60's. Anticipating the warm up, I bought some seeds a few days ago - with the thought that I might just get something planted this week. We are also expecting a fair amount of rain in the upcoming days, but hopefully I can find a dry one to do some potting of seeds outside. The idea of doing that in February just sounds incredible!

Love the pinks. I have been in a bit of pickle. I can’t think of anything I am just wanting to stitch. That is rare for me. I am hoping some inspiration hits me soon.
ReplyDeleteThis past week was amazing. It did me so good. Jeff has some tomato and squash seeds started in the house. I have pruned things that I can and now just ready to watch things come to life.
I understand the pickle, Sandy. I will go into such "slumps" that can last for weeks for me. Then suddenly, something kicks me in gear and I want to make EVERYthing. Reading your late winter posts always gets me in the mood for spring. Summer, not so much, but spring? Bring it on, please!
DeleteWeird winter - setting records for snow and cold and now getting early warm temperatures. Seasonal cross stitch sounds fun. I love putting out monthly decorations in our home.
ReplyDeleteWondering where home for you is at the moment, Maureen. I can't keep up! :D I hope you missed the bitterest of our winter this year.
DeleteYour cross stitch (the colors, especially) say "February" to me. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the variegated thread I'm using, Barb. Makes me want to make something else with it.
DeleteIt's really pretty 😍🩷
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth. :)
DeleteI would love to work on a new cross stitch project but there are just too many wonderful designs out there and I can't decide which one to do, so I do nothing.
ReplyDeleteIt is a dilemma, Mary Anne. ;^)
DeleteThat looks lovely and will definitely suit a spring / summer display. I don’t relate to hoarding magazines, now that the library app has access to thousands of different magazines I don’t have any magazines left in the house. It felt good to clear them all out. Same with recipes cut from the free supermarket magazines…I realised not once in my life have I made one of the recipes and that stopped me collecting torn our pages. Hoarding other craft things for sure I do that 😂 Liz
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you conquered your craft magazine collecting, Liz! I feel similar about all the cooking magazines I finally got rid of a few years ago when I was challenging myself to "downsize" my stuff. I sometimes consider doing something as ruthless with my craft stuff, but so far can't quite bring myself to do that in any truly meaningful way.
DeleteI need to check our library app(s) again. When last I looked, there weren't very many craft magazines, and I once tried to print out a picture to cross stitch from a digital book, and I could not get a decent picture. A clear image is pretty essential for cross stitching. I don't know what is/was up with that, and maybe things have improved. All that said, I do enjoy flipping through the old cross stitching magazines I still have (and some books I own, and library books too) for inspiration.
Our app has “Just Crossstitch” and “Crossstitcher” magazine. Looking at the patterns in them they are within pages of other writing so I imagine printing them would make them pretty small unless you just cropped it and then enlarged the image. But everytime you do any editing to a jpeg image it degrades the quality of the image so I can see they may get a bit fuzzy which would be useless. So a good justification to keep those.
DeleteWell, Liz... You got me to go check and there are only two apps available on our library on-line system that give me access to craft publications (HOOPLA and Cloud Library), and only Cloud Library gives me access to magazines, but there are only two (and they're British) cross stitch publications. I am curious, if you come back and read this if you. have access to Creative Bug. It is listed on our library's app page, but when I try to access it, I get an error message. The other apps work for me, so I assume it's Creative Bug's site. Not that Just Cross Stitch is a favorite magazine of mine, but since that's the magazine that started this conversation, I'm curious if you might have found it on Creative Bug.
DeleteNow... I did try again to print a cross stitch pattern from a digital book on HOOPLA, and I had great success this time. It may have been the one book I downloaded, but it provided a link to print the patterns only. I've never seen that option before. The imagine was perfectly fine, though it won't print out in color for some reason (maybe I'm out of color ink - lol). The only reason I tried to do that is because the color legend is on a non-printable page.
All said, though, thanks for causing me to check out our library's apps again! I basically only use it to listen to audio books on my cell phone, but I found quite a few new-to-me resources this time. For example... I could binge watch When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel for 7 days at a time if I want! :D
