Little doilies happening here...

The weeks right now are kind of blurring together.  Looking at houses for sale online, visiting some open houses (of houses for sale) and having a realtor here to do a market analysis... my mind has definitely been in the clouds of house hunting.

The market is insane at the moment.  Houses sell fast - within days and sometimes hours of being put on the market.  Occasionally a house will show up on Realtor.com and within minutes "pending" is posted on the listing.  Other houses linger for a day or two.

Fortunately, we're in a good spot.  We don't have to move, but mentally we're getting ourselves ready for it - and our house too.

At the moment, I'm finding crafting to be kind of like busy work and I tend to avoid it, but somehow this past week crochet thread made its way into my fingers and I started crocheting more doilies from the book 99 Little Doilies by Patricia Kristoffersen.

First was Doily #10 that I learned is called Vanity Fair elsewhere:

Mine measures 6 1/4 inches - a tad smaller than the original

And then I crocheted Doily #10:

This little fella measures only 3 3/4 inches across.

At this point, I started to make an official note that I've completed this doily and I found out I had made it before.  In the same color, no less!

sigh...

To get over it, I decided to throw myself into yet another little doily, and that's when I produced the illustrious #83:

This sweet thing is 4 inches across!

I'm running out of clever names, 'cuz for some reason
Petticoat Junction came to mind on this one.

And that's all I've got for this YOP post.

If you're interested in my decluttering journey, check in later in the week.  I'm continuing to make progress toward getting rid of 1,000 things.  Honestly, I think I'll be getting rid of lots more than that, but 1,000 things has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

  1. Very pretty doilies. What do you do with all of them? It is nice to know you don't have to move unless your house sells but you haven't found one to move to. I'm glad we aren't in the market right now. I don't do well with time pressure stress. At some point our home/property will be too much for us to take care of but fortunately that's not now. But it also won't be too long.

    1. Sometimes I display doilies in a vignette, but mostly (and especially with the smallest doilies) I'm just collecting them - thinking their purpose will reveal itself to me. This is very much a project that is all about the process. :)

Fortunately, we're not under any pressure regarding buying and selling. We've been talking about moving for years. And we're managing fine in the house we're in now, but it's not a house that would be easy to grow old in. We're just finally on the same page (more or less) about doing this sooner rather than later. In all honesty, if it takes months to find the house we want, I'm okay with that.

  2. Your little doilies are so sweet. Each one has its own personality. Hubby and I decided against moving. We discussed it at length and thought it would be better to finish fixing up our home the way we want it and declutter as we do each room. As much as I would love to go into a smaller home, we actually love this home. After moving 14 times in 12 years, thinking of packing and moving does not appeal to me.

    1. That's a lot of moves! I have to say... The actual packing and moving doesn't appeal to me either. lol

  3. I really do the love the yellow one. I use the doilies of that size a lot around here to put under items placed on wood. However, I never learned to make them.

  4. We made our downsize move rather quickly. My husband was losing is vision and had fallen on the steps a few times ... and we had a lot of steps. It was a townhouse so it was not going to be a good house to grow old in. With all that in mind ... I hated leaving that house. Was in tears. After 30 years we had it the way we wanted it. But it was not a good house to adapt to senior living so it was going to happen sooner or later. Turned out to be soon. I still miss that place and we have been in our condo for almost 5 years.

    1. Life has a way of happening that thrusts us into making decisions we may not want to make quickly, doesn't it? My hubs has had multiple surgeries over the last decade which sometimes made stair climbing difficult, or at a minimum unwise early on. We live in a tri-level with the only rooms on the main level being kitchen, dining room, living room and a half bath. It's enough to be comfortable for a day or so, but it also had some serious limitations. It was eye-opening for me, and I've been wanting to consider this move for years. Something lit a fire under us this summer and while hubs was a little reluctant to jump on board, he seems to be fully with the idea now. OTOH, his tolerance for enduring a lengthy process is slim so I'm hoping we find the right home sooner rather than later. OTOH, me being all about the process at times, I feel like I could wait indefinitely for the right house to present itself. Getting our styles to mesh is the trick. ;^)

  5. The doilies are lovely. I think everyone deserves some downtime from the pressures of life and crocheting is a great stress reliever.

  6. Your doilies are so pretty, I love all the colours so bright and cheery. Houses are selling fast here as well they only seem to be on the market for a day or so. I think it's fun searching especially when there is no hurry. It's the perfect time for decluttering too because there will be less stuff to pack. I have made a start on the garage today, it's taken me hours just to finish one corner, I took one look and thought where do I start! slowly slowly. Have a great week. xx

    1. Just thinking about moving has been motivating for reducing our stuff. Can't seem to get through it fast enough, though. I do sigh over the amount of yarn I own. Without knowing where we might move to it feels nearly impossible to make decisions about it.

  7. Nice! Can't beat a crocheted doily for a bit of lacy nostalgia in my book. On board with your 1000 things to declutter. I've been on a mission like that myself this year! Good luck with the house-hunting. :)

  8. The housing market is absolutely ridiculous right now. Read an article the other day saying that now there's bidding wars on rentals too. The real estate agent that listed the condo belonging to our friend said that people from the city are selling at astronomical prices and then snapping up everything here for inflated prices making it almost impossible for locals to even begin to buy anything. Scary stuff.
    Pretty doilies, as always!

    1. Thank you, Mary Anne. :) Yes, the craziness a bit scary. Trying to be wise in the midst of it.

  9. wow 1000 things!! I look forward to seeing your progress. Moving is a good impetus to declutter. We keep flipflopping on selling and moving - especially in this market it seems overwhelming. Love your doilies and now you have a lovely green matching pair. No need to sigh over that dear Becki!

  10. The real estate market is hot here too. Houses listing and selling in a single day going for over the asking price.

I don't think selling will be a problem. Finding one you're prepared to buy might be.

    1. Finding a house that fits our parameters has so far been a challenge. Fortunately, we're on no time table, so at least that's in our favor.

  12. 1000 things! What an awesome goal!

Love your happy doilies! Just think of the "duplicate" as a matching set for fancy candlesticks perhaps.

  13. I love your little doilies, and the way you presented them. That first one with the pearls on top reminded me of my gran and the good old days.

    1. That image didn't occur to me. I've been wanting people to see these colorful doilies as new and fresh, but I think I just succeeded in setting them back 60 years. lol
