On a mission to finish...

A short and sweet post today.   I've gotten back to the shades of brown blanket, and it's still giving me angst.

The two mid-range browns are very similar.  To the point that I'm second-guessing them again.

I have to say, though, that it's kind of amazing how quickly I can make progress when I plough forward through my uncertainties and stop ripping back and starting over again.  I keep telling myself the recipient will love me (and maybe the blanket) in spite of whether or not I am comfortable with it.

There are, no doubt, several life lessons in the making of this project.  Some, yet to be discovered, I think...

  1. I am probably not a helper, Becki, but I think it looks lovely and there is no need to fret about it.

    1. You actually are a helper, TB. It was your comment on my last post about this blanket that caused me to see it differently. Even my friend (when I shared your comment with her) really liked the comparison to coffee/latte. If I can just get to the frothy cream section, I may start to relax. :)

  3. Such a beautiful pattern. I'm finding that some of my yarns don't knit up to the same color it looked like in the skein. No fair!!

    1. Maureen, I've been known to cut out unwanted colors in some striped yarns. Caked up, the colors looked fine together, but knitted or crocheted, sometimes things are not as they seemed.

And there's also the issue of trying to get colors to show up correctly in a photo...

  4. It's perfect. I really like the pattern you are using too. What brand of yarn are you using? It looks very plush and soft.

    1. Marsha, I needed to use a mix of yarns that I could find locally. And locally means Hobby Lobby. I Love This Yarn, Yarn ID, and Soft & Sleek (which is the plushest of the three, though all are nice and soft). Discovering the second two yarns is a nice perk of having to look through more than one brand to find enough colors I thought would work together.

    2. I really like both of those yarns. The ILTY is being used for my Lego blanket. The Soft and Sleek has been made into several hats for the girls in the family.

    3. Soft and Sleek is a sturdy, but soft enough yarn. And I love that it is low-pill. I wish it came in more colors. I would make all kind of things with it.

  5. Looks pretty close to perfect to me! I am certain the recipient will be blessed beyond measure. It's really lovely. I can't do any of that stuff, so I appreciate all such efforts. It really is beautiful.

    1. Thank you, Ruth. Looking through my records, I saw that this is the fourth blanket I've made in 10 years using this stitch pattern. The others were made in a solid color. Nothing to angst over with those. :)

  7. Sometimes you might feel meh about a project because it's colours that aren't necessarily 'you'. I know I wouldn't be happy working with browns, but other people love those colours.

    1. It's interesting, Mary Anne, that I love each of these shades on their own (or if I were to use any of them as a neutral with some other colors). But probably because they aren't a perfect shade progression from dark to light I worry a tad about how it will actually look in the end. That said, I'm so pleased with the progress I'm finally making, I'm not entertaining the angst so much at this point.

  8. Yes, I feel the same about colors that aren't necessarily "me". I wouldn't enjoy working with them, but this blanket is turning out beautifully and I love the colors together. The stitch is lovely as well.

  9. Oh, yes . . . I love that you're seeing life lessons in this project! That makes it worthwhile no matter what you think of the blanket when you're finished. But I really do like the colors (love the commenter's comparison to lattes!) and it's not "cliche." Carry on!

  10. It’s a funny feeling working on a project that you aren’t particularly keen on the colours. It fascinates me how much more I enjoy a project if I find the colours cheery. I have been working my way out of everything purple through my red phase and now into my blue phase. I can’t imagine me ever moving into a yellow and orange phase but I definitely had a big long brown phase before I went into purple. Everything from camel to dark chocolate my wardrobe was in the 00’s. Liz (Highlandheffalump)

    1. Liz, you remind me... when I was a more prolific crocheter, and made more solid color things, I could scroll through my Ravelry project page and see what color(s) I was into at any given time. It's still there, it's just further down the page. Kind of fun to see how favorite colors (or just color sensibilities) change over time. Lately, I've been more into using my stash and making multi-colored projects. I think that's why shades of brown is challenging me at the moment. The blanket is nearly done now, and I don't think it's unattractive, but it does challenge my visual sense at the moment.

  11. Well I think it is beautiful too - I can imagine it wrapped around as a lovely hug drinking hot chocolate - perfect!
