Another week, another square...

Wanting to make another square to go into my Blanket of Squares, I found this Crossed Square pattern in the Moogly CAL 2017 group and got right to making it:

The pattern is easy and very well-written.  After a round or two, the pattern really becomes unnecessary, though.   It did for me, anyway.

So... another square down.  Thirty-one to go!   =^/

Actually, I'm not sure how many squares I'll need for this blanket.  I'm working with a size G (4.25 mm) hook and so far my squares are pretty consistently coming out between 10 - 10 1/2 inches square.  If they're on the small side, I've been able to block them out to 10 1/2 inches.   I may end up putting an "equalizing" border around each square that will add some to that measurement, and depending on what join method I use, I guess there will be some width added there, too.   This is all new to me and I can only guess right now, but I'm thinking that what would be attractive is a blanket that is five squares running horizontal, and seven squares vertical.  That's 35 squares!   Yowza!   I best quit collecting square patterns and get cracking on making them.

In addition to the square above, here is what I've made so far that I plan to put in this blanket:

P.S.  I'm experimenting with font size again and would love to get feedback on how this larger font comes through on your computer or reading device.   I love larger fonts, I'm just not sure how well they work for everyone else.  Thanks in advance for any feedback!

    1. Yes, my aging eyes prefer larger print too (on a screen - in print, not so much). But I read pretty much everything that is online on a computer screen. I don't know how this size font translates to reading off say... a phone. Hmmm... I think I'll go try that now that I've brought it up :)

  2. Loving all of your blocks. The Crossed Square is gorgeous and you have used such lovely colours for it. I've been patiently waiting for the March BOM squares to get posted. The wait is almost over now, lol.
The larger font looks good on my laptop. I rarely use my phone for the internet so I can't give you info on how it looks there, sorry.

    1. Thank you, Cyra. I know... I get all excited at the end of the month now knowing that new squares will be released soon. This square thing could soon consume most if not all of my crochet time.

  3. The font size is great although I need glasses for distance not close up. I love your little sun that you put on your thread reply. Your squares are all awesome! I especially love that they are 'solid' looking which is great for a blanket. I love my giant granny blanket but it won't keep drafts out! LOL! I too spend much time and printer ink scouring the internet for patterns when I have plenty of patterns and WIPs but sometimes it's just nice to 'window shop' right in the comfort of your own home and like your posts, it is very inspirational....I'm long on inspiration! LOL! Did you plan your yarns ahead of time or are you choosing them as you go? They all seem to coordinate so nicely.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Sandra. You inspire me with all your creativity so your words are a big encouragement. Figuring out what kind of squares I like and what colors I prefer was really January's task and now that I think about it, I've made many more squares than just these four working through those decision processes. For example... I, too, am seeing that I prefer more solid squares, but it took making a couple of lacey ones to recognize that. Choosing my colors was a bigger challenge and only came after working several squares in colors that, in the end, didn't inspire me. I don't have a color theme, per se, but I decided that heathered yarns (specifically Lion Brand Heartland yarns would be my base and I would build my squares from that - sometimes adding heathers and solids from other brands when needed, or if I find them useful. While I love the wild and bright colors of scrapghans I'm, at heart, a restrained gal so I think I'm going to be seeing a color theme emerge as I work my squares. I will challenge myself to get outside my restrained box, but my guess is I'll end up with a sort of "jewel-toned" blanket when all is said and done - just judging by the squares I've created so far. We'll see, though. That unknown keeps this project fresh and fun for me. :)

  5. I read on my kindle and I always expand it anyway - so font is fine for me.

  6. I like the font! This blanket is going to be so amazing - full of color and texture. It's amazing that you are able to make them the same size - this is actually the most challenging and daunting part of making different stitch patterns.
