A happy hooky week...

Having slain the slump, I continued in my productivity this past week.  And having reacquainted myself with thread and steel hook, I found myself wanting to make some more doilies.

First I made a small Doily #8 from the book 99 Little Doilies:
I call this 6 1/2 inch wide doily Circle of Leaves

And then I made a third Winter's Breath Doily (having given away the first two I made last year):
Winter's Breath measures right at 8 inches across

The thread used is Artiste Mercerized Egyptian Cotton thread available at Hobby Lobby.  It is so tempting to go check out what new colors they might have stocked since last summer, but I must not.  Stepping foot in Hobby Lobby is dangerous business while I'm on a yarn buying moratorium.

And lastly, I finished the ribbed scarf I started two weeks ago:

I just love this easy-to-knit stitch pattern.  It's so squishy and stretchy.  And combining two different yarns makes for a seemingly infinite number of unique scarves one can knit up.  This is made with Red Heart With Love in the color Boysenberry, combined with Red Heart Unforgettable in the colorway Stained Glass.   I love how I can get a fun striped scarf with very few ends to weave in when I'm done!

And that wraps up another week of yarny makes.

To see what other YOPers are up to,

  1. I love that scarf and you’ve again come up with a lovely name for the numbered doily. They are so pretty I wouldn’t want anyone to put anything on them.

    1. Thank you, Liz. I feel the same way - when I use them I don't really cover them up. They are the show. Or at least part of it. :)

  2. The doilies are gorgeous, as is the scarf.

  3. Your doilies are all lovely. What do you do with them? Gifts?

    1. Most that I've made I have given away. The questions I'm getting make me think I should take some pictures of how I use these. I only have a few at the moment, though, so I'll work on that idea while I make some more. I don't do anything terribly clever, but seeing them displayed might help someone understand that these are "not your granny's doilies". ;^)

  5. The doilies are gorgeous: Winter's Breath is my favourite. I have loved all colourways you have used.
This newest scarf combo is really pretty too: mine is still hiding out in a project bag!

    1. Did you not finish the scarf you started?!? I didn't have enough of the Unforgettable colorway to make this an full adult-sized scarf, so this is a tad smaller. This one I made small adult or a child-sized. My goal was to use stash. I'll figure out the recipient later. ;^) Thank you for the comment on the doilies. I am smitten with them - even if mine are simple ones.

  6. I love the doilys Becki, the fine thread work of the crochet fascinates me and I like the inventive names you give them, much nicer than the numbers they currently have.
The newest scarf is lovely and the different combinations of colours that can be used make it an ideal pattern!

  7. I just love your doilies. It is almost a lost art. Most young folk have no idea what a doily is. As for your scarf.........wow......it looks absolutely wonderful and will be so nice and soft and warm. Also, I really like your new avatar on Ravelry. It is perfect for spring.

    1. Thank you, Marsha! :) When I mention to friends that I am making doilies I always get a confused "isn't that quaint" sort of look. They just don't know what to say. When they see the actual doilies in these pretty colors, the response is more like, "oh, Oh, OH! I had no idea how interesting/pretty/(fill-in-the adjective) these are!" lol I'm sure they're not everyone's taste, but I can't help but think if they had a more "hip" name than "doily" people would like them more. lol

  8. Did you put the buttons on the scarf? I saw it is a video tutorial....I saved it to watch later as I love it! Plus the doilies are beautiful! I'll be ordering that book down the road but meanwhile i think I will try the Winter's Breath which is a free pattern! Thank you for so much eye candy and inspiration!

    1. No, Sam. I didn't use buttons. I just made the scarf long so it could be tied or knotted around the neck. It's a super easy stitch pattern. I hope you like it if you try it. :)

  10. Both doilies are really pretty - I love the colours, which seem so much more modern than making them in the traditional white or ecru.

    1. I do love the colorful doilies, but I was just thinking I might need to make one in a sort of dingy linen color to go with an old wooden table-top chest. Dingy linen doesn't sound very pretty, does it? But I think it might be the perfect color for this. Next week, though. I didn't manage to make a start on any doilies this week (though, there's still tomorrow!)

    2. Sometimes dingy linen colour is just the right thing, particularly if it's paired with an antique piece of furniture.
