Years ago we attached retractable clothes lines to the shed, and hooks to two posts on our house. There were a number of summers where this was a weekly (sometimes more often) sight:
This summer, it seems, I've been gone from home more days than not, so I was glad to take advantage of cancelled plans today to wash the bed linens just so I could enjoy drying them outside on this gorgeous day.
There's little humidity so with a high of 80 ⁰F and the changing breezes, these will be dry in short order.
While the gusts will no doubt beat the crispness out of the sheets, I will still enjoy the sweet smell tonight from them drying outside. 😊
One of my favorite smells. Brings back lovely memories from when I was young and mom hung all our sheets outside to dry. Smelled like sunshine and warmth. I too use to hang all our sheets outside to dry. We called it our solar clothes dryer.

DeleteI just LOVE hanging the linen out on the line! I love the way it looks and how it smells after!!! Problem with us is that we both have some bad pollen allergies, so when I hang laundry outside we sneeze like crazy lol...I have to wait until late August to take advantage of outdoor drying!
ReplyDeleteVisible pollen coats everything here in late May through much of June. Once that disappears I imagine nothing is there I can't see. ;^) Fortunately, we don't seem to be bothered much by pollen.
DeleteAnd btw Becki, today is the release day! :(
ReplyDeleteI'll post about it on Thursday!! :)
Awww. I see your little frown there. It makes me a little sad too.
DeleteI love drying things on a clothes line, brings back memories of when I was young! We have no place to that here (nor sadly would we want to, in this city) but the memories of it are dear!
ReplyDeleteThere's just something nostalgic about a clothesline...
DeleteWhat a fun sight to see. The only things I put outside to dry are my make up brushes and blocked knitting.
ReplyDeleteI imagine that California sun would dry your knits pretty quickly.
DeleteHow I miss our clothes line! I'm sure our previous neighbours must miss seeing (and wondering about!!!) a lot of the oddball things I hung out to dry. There was much giggling at one point when one of my bras disengaged from the line and ended up draped in the flower bed. I didn't notice until our neighbour asked if I was growing some sort of new flower!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
DeleteI miss seeing all my daughter's baby clothes on the line. As her clothes got bigger, the line got heavier until it sadly pulled down a lovely lilac tree it was attached to. Sigh!
ReplyDeleteBaby clothes on a clothes line are so sweet. :)
