Good news & some spring stitching...

Good news this week!  I received and accepted an offer on my brother's house last Monday!  It's a few more weeks until closing (possibly a month), but I'm feeling relieved to (hopefully) have finished most of the work involved in getting the house ready to sell.  We still need to move a few things off the property, but that doesn't feel like too monumental of a task at this point.  Mustn't grow weary now!

On the crafting front...  after seeing Sandy's cross stitched bunny last week (at Home Ec Major) I had an irresistible urge to cross stitch a bunny, too.   So I found one, and now about half-way done, I think I might get it finished before Easter:

Also, I finished Part 4 on the Linen & Thread 2020 SAL, and added some smaller pictures:

Trying to decide if that is too busy there (in the center of the above picture), and if I should go lighter in filling in blank  spaces.  I've seen a couple that are really full and they are fun to look at.  On the other hand, I wonder if it's too much.  The wonderful thing about a sampler is that it doesn't have to look the same throughout.  So maybe I'll experiment.

And that's really all I've got.  I think the upcoming week will be busy - hopefully, that translates into feeling productive.  It just now occurred to me (for some reason)...   Heading into tax season, we need to not only get our own taxes done, but gather and take necessary stuff to the accountant for both my MIL's and my brother's estates.

The nuttiness of that just struck me.

😧

Breathing deep...

We will get to the other side of this.

If you have posted a comment to me under the name of Glenda, please e-mail me via the address found on my profile.  I will be happy to answer your question privately.  Thanks!

  1. That bunny is absolutely the sweetest. You didnquite a bit on it this week. Brought have 3 more weeks before Easter....surely it will be completed. Your red sampler is so interesting. I really enjoy seeing what all you have added to it each week. I like all the items you have filled in with.

Congrats on getting your brother's home sold...or almost sold. Hopefully, after taxes are over you can take a well deserved deep breath.

    1. Thank you, Marsha. I do think once the house is sold and turned over to the new owner and taxes are filed, there will be a huge sense of relief - for a while. At some point it will all dwindle down to an occasional piece of mail I have to deal with, or send to the attorney, or maybe call the accountant about. At the moment, though, it's all turned a bit crazy. Stitching is my calm place where I shut it all out for while.

  2. Well that's a lot to accomplish. It took me two years to finish the only estate I've ever done. Hope never to do another.

The rabbit must provide a pleasant diversion and he does look as if he'll be ready for Easter.

    1. MIL's estate work should be finished with this tax filing, but I expect we'll have to do another return for my brother's estate in 2022 because he died so close to the end of the year. We'll see, I guess. It's really kind of crazy how much is involved in settling even a small estate.

  3. Aww....thanks Becki. I love your bunny. I am almost through with my second and final bunny. I will share soon. I am happy to hear you have a sale and yucky taxes. I have no idea why I procrastinate every year to compile that and get it done. I have mine ready to take to the accountant and am going to do my mom's myself this year. Wish me luck. Yes - you will get it all done.

    1. Hubs does ours every year with Turbo Tax, but this year I think he's feeling like things may have crossed over to being complicated enough to have an accountant take care it all.

  4. Adorable bunny!
Congratulations on selling the house. It must be a welcome relief at the start of spring to feel that pressure lift.

    1. It is a relief. It's also sobering. In recent weeks my emotions have been all over the place. Removing my brother's things from our home will be both good, and probably a bit sad. I imagine the last time we're at the house I will have very mixed feelings as well. Sigh.

  5. Very glad your brother's house is almost taken care of. That was a big task. And now taxes...
Good thing there's stitching, too. Yours is just lovely. And there's a little time before Easter.

    1. Yes, stitching is a wonderful reprieve from all that weighs on the mind. What do people do, I wonder, who don't have something to busy their hands and still their minds at times like this?

  6. Your bunny is amazing! So lifelike! Very impressive. Congrats on the quick sale. I know the market is a seller's market. Most things here in Florida and back home in Ohio sell either before they officially hit the market or within a few days. It's crazy if you are trying to buy. My son is having problems finding a rental unit as there are few and they rent in days as well. Good luck with taxes. Thankfully my hubby does ours. I would be totally lost... can you say tax accountant whenever I'll have to do them. :)

    1. Feeling very fortunate to have the market we have right now. Now, if we can just get ourselves in gear and get our own home ready to sell. We thought this would be the spring for that. Don't know if I have it in me, though...

  8. Congratulations on selling the house, I hope that it's a smooth process from now on! I sold mine 4 times and each seller dropped out for one reason or another so it was 5th time lucky for me the whole process took a year and it was a nightmare. I love your bunny I have the urge to sew one too but I know I won't get it finished by Easter. The Sampler looks lovely just as it is to me. Good luck with the taxes thank goodness I'm retired. Have a good week.

    1. Thank you, Linda. Being retired as we've gone through two estate settlings in a year's time has been a very good thing, indeed.

  9. Love that bunny. Your cross stitch work is so beautiful and perfect. Hope that craft gives you somewhere to escape to while you are dealing with all life’s responsibilities. Hugs.

    1. Awe, thank you, Elaine. My cross stitch isn't perfect at all, though. I've actually stitched over places where I put colors wrong in the first place (rather than ripping out and doing those places over). I think because of all the different colors, it's a pretty forgiving stitch.

  10. Thanks for reminding me about TAXES! I feel for you about all the paperwork and taxes for not only you and your husband but your MIL and brother too. All of it takes so much time you barely have time to grieve. I'm happy for you that the house sold and maybe later this Spring you will be able to relax a bit.
Your bunny is so sweet. Bunnies have a special meaning for me. I love your red sampler too. It's fine with your additions. It's what ever you like. It's funny because we have switched....I am crocheting and you are cross stitching! LOL! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

    1. Fortunately, we're turning over the paperwork to someone else, but gathering another person's records for this task is daunting, to say the least. The grieving I have to do over losing my brother is a complicated one. It's multi-layered and deserves more introspection than I am able to give it, but that may be a saving grace of the busy-ness of this time. I may be in a better place mentally and emotionally to face it all later when it isn't so raw. I've noticed (and enjoyed) seeing our crocheting. :)

  11. Hi Becki :) I can't imagine the stress of dealing with both estates like this, but congratulations on the sale of your brother's home. :) Your stitched bunny is just beautiful and thank you so much for your comment about Marlene...she continues to improve daily though I still have to force feed her...where on earth has her appetite gone to? :(

  12. Wow, look at that shading. I wonder if the designer designed all that herself or used a program? Yay for getting a good offer on one property.

  13. That’s one cute bunny! I don’t envy you the task of your taxes this year, inheritance tax here is very high here and after all the stress and work to sell a loved ones things and their homes the tax man then comes and takes a big chunk. It’s great that the house has an accepted offer and hopefully by the time summer comes you’ll have your time back and the weight of it all will be lifted.

    1. We are fortunate in that (with such a small property) we are free from inheritance taxes. That wasn't always the case here, and I don't assume with so many in our country calling for socialism that such freedom will last. I can't imagine having to go through all of this to have the government dip its hand into the pot, too.
