More thread crochet...

Still making doilies...

This week, I finished two more small ones from the book, 99 Little Doilies:

# 85 - the second time I've made this doily.

It's another accidental duplicate. I really don't understand how this happens since I'm trying to keep a careful record.  Not careful enough, evidently.

#84

Okay, maybe this is what happened... Maybe I meant to make #84 when I accidently pulled the pattern out for #85.  And I was too far in once I noticed my mistake.  Yeah...  I think that's the story.

And now I'm making a larger doily.  I've made this before as a gift (twice, I'm thinking).   It's close to finished, but not quite.  Hopefully, by next week, I'll be posting a picture of this wrinkly thing transformed by its final rounds and a good blocking:
This pattern is called Summer Splendor - only mine is going to be Autumn Splendor.  I'm loving this autumny color called Ginger.

In fact, I pulled out some more autumn-colored crochet threads this week as I straightened up my craft room, so watch this space for (hopefully) more thread-crochet projects!

  1. Autumn Splendor is my favorite!! I am loving all the doilies you are stitching up as you work through the 99 doilies book!

    1. Can't wait 'till you see it finished. It's a pretty simple pattern, but the final rounds truly transform this doily.

  2. Ginger is a perfect color for autumn. How many doilies patterns have you made from the 99 in the book?

    1. Oh yes, you asked me this before and I didn't look it up. According to my record, I've finished 14 different patterns, making 3 patterns twice. I also started one this past week, that I decided I didn't like at all and it went into the trash (lol), so I'm now allowing myself to forgo any patterns that don't appeal to me - for whatever reason.

  3. oh my I love your explanation of how you made a double doiley (which is gorgeous by the way). I try to write directly on the pattern if I have made it, and who I made it for. It doesn't always work, and sometimes I totally lose track of a FO and forgot who I gave it to, or whether it is just hidden somewhere in my house!

    1. I (tell myself to) put a check mark on the printed out copy (to indicated I've made that one). AND I have a written record. And these are all kept together. But even telling myself to be sure to cross reference my patterns with the written record before I start a new one, I still find myself messing up my system. The good thing is these are fairly quick to make, so the loss in time is minimal at least.

  4. These are lovely. I keep doing a double take, though, because I keep reading it as dollies!

    1. Some of these would make a pretty rug, or maybe even shrug (if folded over) for your dollies. :)

  5. The story is you made beautiful doilies! I can see a tunic with the green one sewn onto the front.

    1. That is the artist in you. ;^) I'm envisioning some sort of collage. I've been looking for inspiration online, and I only know other's have done exactly that. I'm just not sure what form it will take. If it does...

  7. They are really delicately beautiful.

  8. Lovely creations. My mother found crocheting doilies to be calming. I find it tedious so no doilies going forward. I admire anyone who can work with crochet thread. ☺️

    1. I find simple doilies to be calming - and fun when one ends up looking more complicated than it is to crochet. I laugh at myself over my first simple doily. It was less than 10 inches across, but it took me over a year to finish it (or just get back to it). But somehow, when I picked it up again, it just flowed off the hook. One of these days I'm going to get my fill of crocheting with thread, and I'll probably put it all away for months again. ;^)

  9. Beautiful work. I love #84 and I also love the Ginger color on the larger doily. I have crocheted with thread -- a doily or two, and quite a few snowflakes -- but I really don't enjoy it. My hat is off to you.

    1. I don't care for crocheting with thread if the pattern is very fiddly. There are things worse than picots, but I don't particularly like making them. Unfortunately, many doily patterns end with them, so I try to do some positive self-talk before tackling the rows they are in. They aren't exactly hard. Just fiddly.

  10. So pretty and lacy! I try to keep good records of projects but sometimes things fall by the wayside, I'm afraid. :( I applaud your choice of some fall colors - I'm ready for the seasonal change!

    1. Oh, me too. I can't complain as summer really hasn't been hard, but I'm looking forward to changing leaves already, and chilly nights. :)

  11. Duplicates or not ... these doilies are spectacular!!! I absolutely love the ginger coloured, fall themed one. It's truly divine! Is your goal to make all of the patterns in the book?

    1. Thanks, Nicky. It was my original intention to work through all of the patterns, no matter how long it took, but I'm revising that goal to only making the ones I like.
I had that epiphany this past week when I found myself frustrated with one and wasn't liking it after finishing about 3/4's of it. I threw it away decided then and there my only goal is to enjoy this project. :)

    1. I'm always ready for autumn - whether it's autumn, winter or summer. I think the only season I love more than (or perhaps equal to) autumn is spring. The beauty of those two seasons just doesn't last long enough for me.

  13. I've seen doilies like these stretched into embroidery hoops and hung in windows....perhaps a thought??? I, too, love the colour you're using for Autumn Joy.

    1. Yes... I once had a doily like this crocheted by hub's grandmother. I loved that thing. It finally came a part a bit, and I gently removed it from the ring - not quite knowing what to do with it after that. But yes... This idea may be something I pursue.

  14. They are all so pretty. I am not usually a fan of orange but autumnal tones like that ginger do appeal.

  16. How did I miss this? I always love your posts! So sorry! I love your doilies. I made a few last year but could use some more. I would like some rectangular ones. I'll have to research that! I love yours and the ginger color is lovely!
