Goodbye October...

Yes!  I finally finished my October stitch!

I originally thought I'd make these monthly stitches into flatfolds for easy display (and easy storage when not in use), but now I'm just not sure.  Mostly, I'm just not sure I want to make twelve flatfolds.

No hurries to make a decision about that since this is the only one I've finished and I won't be contemplating displaying it until next October.  I'm all ready to start the December stitch, though.  Yes, I'm going to skip November for now as I doubt I'd finish it before the month is over.

These are very simple stitches (as far as cross stitch patterns go), but the cuteness is what drew me in.

Oh!  And one more thing!   Looky what I found in my 30-Day Minimalism Challenge last month:

I knew I had put it somewhere for safe keeping.
And that's exactly where I found it!  😁

While the October 30-Day Minimalism Challenge is over, if you're at all interested in joining me and others in a low-key, on-going decluttering effort, see the second half of my post here.  It's no stress, you set your own goals, come and go as you like...  Really, it's about as low-key as it gets.  The whole point is to have company on the journey to making space in our homes for the things that matter most to us.

  1. That is darling! You don't display them? I might be tempted to put them on a tea towel since my tea towels don't see much action. You're not going to believe this, but wigs are soaking getting ready to he donated. They'll be the first thing going as a result of your wonderful example.

    1. Hi Vee! I do hope to display them during the month they are named for. This is just the first one I've finished stitching and I'm rethinking how to finish it (and the rest) for displaying. Thank you for your encouraging words. I am touched that you've considered me an example - and that you are donating wigs. I need to catch up with your story, but I think I have an idea what you're talking about and can appreciate what those wigs will mean to others. I am grateful you've been reading my blog and commenting, sweet lady.

  2. Yea for the sewing book. One of the first things I stitched when I retired and picked up cross stitch after a long break was some monthly cottages. I first finished them on a piece of sticky board and used a Hobby Lobby piece to put them in. I later went back and put a backing on them so I could just put them on an easel. I still display them and am on the sixth year putting them out each month. I have a little plastic bin I keep them in, but all that to say a frame that works for them would be cute too. Then you could just change them out each month. Good job on it though.

    1. These are all good suggestions, Sandy. And seeing your pretty stitches on display in your home in various pictures so I know I want to do something like you've explained above with some future stitches. After posting this and then sleeping on it, I think I have come up with my solution for these little monthly ones. :) Will share in some future post. Maybe when I finish December's.

  3. If it were me (and you're not, so there's that)...I would be tempted to finish the stitcheries as postcards and then find a small easel to display them, one each month. Mounting them onto cardstock would keep them stiff enough to display and yet they'd take up little room to store when not in use.

  4. I have just discovered these lovely stitcheries and I love the October one simple but so cute. I need to have a good look at all of them and pick out the ones that appeal. Have a great week.

    1. That October's was so cute is probably the reason I got hooked on them. Some of the designs don't really seem relate to the month they are assigned and since posting above, I've finally concluded I don't HAVE to stitch them all - just the ones I like. :) That was really freeing and helpful in me deciding what to do with the ones I do stitch.

    1. Boy, isn't it though! I knew it was around here, but with all the shifting and sifting of MIL's stuff we did for months this summer, I figured it would surface once I got down to the level that it was at - I just didn't know where that was. lol

  7. I love that little hedgehog! It seems I am still on the de-cluttering bandwagon too, but slowed down a little. Yesterday I did go through my recipe box, and turf things I have never made, or had duplicate of and transferred them all to a much nicer box and recycled the old plastic one. It sure felt good.

  9. I don’t know what a flatfood is so I’ll google that in a minute. It’s precious though. If you don’t want to make all of them maybe just start doing one per season? It’s very pretty and we love hedgehogs.

  11. An instruction manual can be so necessary at times. If you make this cute cross stitch into a flatfold, pls take pics of the process. I'd like to see and learn.
