Cross stitch smalls...

It was tempting to skip posting again this week, but crafting mojo is so elusive lately, I thought I'd better post while I have something current to show.

In my last post, I was making plans for finishing some older cross stitch projects.  Well... I finally stitched a few up into little pillows:

The hardest part was just deciding to do it.  Though, it did take a bit of time to cut everything out, iron on interfacing (to make the projects nice and smooth - I heard somewhere to do that).  And I left too small of openings for turning them right side out, so I had to unpick some stitches.

But seriously...  It's embarrassing how long it took me to finally set myself down to do this.  I've had the cross stitching finished on this one since last October:

In the process, I found out my 30 year-old Singer sewing machine is frozen.  I'm thinking all it needs is a good cleaning and re-oiling, and whatever a repair shop does to get a machine in good working order again.  Meanwhile, I'm sewing on my MIL's nearly 70 year-old Singer and it hums along so nicely.  It's tempting to just chuck my old frozen one, but it is very handy for quickly zig zagging edges, and creating buttonholes - whereas doing these things on my MIL's machine requires fiddling with attachments.  So sometime this upcoming week I'm thinking of biting the bullet and getting my old machine to a repair shop. Wish me well in that plan.

And that's all she wrote!

  1. Love your finished cross-stitch pillows!

I find the tasks I dread the most seem to finish faster than I've built them up to take. Great job!!

    1. I know! I wonder why I never seem to learn that lesson! Thank you, Cinna.

  2. Ahh, just had to take my sewing machine in as it was running really slow. I rarely sew so it was pretty hard to justify fixing it. Now that the mask mandate has been lifted I really don't need it. Oh well. Your Christmas cross stitches are very cute. The monthly ones look fun for decorating. I do monthly placemats and guest bathroom towels. That's about it.

    1. I've never had a sewing machine repaired before. I'm trusting it will be a worthwhile thing to do.

  3. Your cross stitch projects look amazing! Isn't that always the way? We drag our feet then love the results when these WIPs are done.

And I swear they don't make machines like they used to -- my mom's 40 year machine works better than my 9 year old one. Go figure! Hope you get yours fixed soon.

    1. I can't get over how smoothly my MIL's antique sewing machine runs. When/if mine is fixed it probably won't run that smoothly, but it will be familiar. And that will be good.

  4. Your tiny pillows are precious. How nice to have a languishing project completed. Hmmm....what will you be doing next? Are you still working on your red sampler? I love that project. Makes me want to do a monocolored xstitch.

    1. Languishing is the right word. The red sampler is still a WIP, but I haven't worked much on it for over a month now. I'm finding myself drawn to small cross stitch projects right now.

  5. Your little pillows turned out so cute! Well worth the finishing I think. I just started a new cross stitch project (actually 2) that will take me awhile I think.

  6. Well, look at you. Those little pillows are just adorable and yes, go get that machine fixed. You will be happy it is done when you want it one day. That from a procrastinator:)

  7. Your little pillows are darling! I am especially drawn to the sweet hedgehog. Sounds like a good plan to have your machine repaired, but isn't it sometimes hard to just buckle down and do the thing that needs doing?

    1. Yes, it is. The hardest part is going to be walking in with my old machine and trusting they don't think I'm batty for wanting to fix the thing. If it's fixable, I know I'll be glad to have it back - as opposed to buying a new machine.

  8. I was very happy to find a sewing repair shop not too far away. I took in one machine a month, which meant that my sister received a sewing machine, my niece received a sewing machine, mine got fixed, and just as I was about to take in the fourth and final machine, the shop closed for good. So disappointing. You will be so glad that you took in your Singer. I am sure of it.

    1. How sad that the shop closed. The closest one to me is about a half-hour away. I don't want to become a regular, but I hope they'll be around for a while if I need them again.

  9. Your little pillows are so cute, I'm not in the mood for crafting at all at the moment, when the weather warms up I want to be outside. Good luck with the sewing machine, I hope you have no problems getting it fixed.

    1. It's getting ready to turn hot here which makes me want to stay in and stitch. I'm a pansy. I prefer cool, sunny days to hot humid ones. And hot and humid tends to describe June - September here in Indiana.

  11. Those xstitch little pillows are just the cutest! I hope your sewing machine gets sorted - I imagine a good oiling is just what it needs.

    1. It's totally frozen. I haven't been able to even find a video to explain why that would be. I've even taken it apart to see if I could tell what might be the problem, but I put it right back together. Supposedly, they're pretty simple to repair, but it looked complicated to me.

  12. These pillows are cute and very professionally finished. I’d definitely see what the repair shop can do, they brought my frozen machine back to life for me. I do think I like the idea of sewing things more than the reality of doing it, so I’m great a procrastinating. It must feel great to have these WIPs finished.

  13. Lovely needlework.
Your post reminds me, my Dressmaker sewing machine is almost 50 years old!
