30 days to less - day 3

Today I'm getting rid of a bunch of window sheers (9 panels to be exact) that somehow made their way here from my MIL's.  I think they were something no one wanted and dh brought them home for us to figure out what to do with them.  So I did.  😉

There is also an old heating pad that was recently replaced by a newer (probably safer) one that belonged to my MIL.

And a tri-fold photo frame.  When my boys were little it housed pictures of them, but I haven't had pictures in it for years.  Rather than store it empty and unused, maybe someone else will enjoy it now.

Day 3:  14 things gone*

* A footnote:  You may notice that I'm keeping a running total of items leaving the house.  There will be days when I will, on one hand treat a collection of items as one thing in the official count for the day - e.g. Day 7 may have 7 things (or maybe 7 categories of things) leaving, but I will count each item individually in my running count.  It will be interesting this time around to know exactly how many individual items actually left the premises over the course of these 30 days.

  1. So are you piling up the intended items for donation or dropping them off each day to their destination?

    1. The donatable items get put together (either in a corner in the house, or in one of our vehicles) and when we have enough (or someone just wants to get it done) they are taken to a donation site. We have a Goodwill and another, private thrift store in town, and a Salvation Army in the next town north. South of us is a favorite donation site that exclusively serves families in need, but they can only take certain items. It's a great goal for things to leave the house the day they're posted here, but that's not usually practical. That said, hubs is a "get 'er done!" sort of guy, so if I box or bag it up and put it by the front door, he's most likely to drop it off the next time he's out running an errand. I would say most everything leaves within a few days to a week of being posted here.

  3. I used to have a heating pad exactly like that one!

I've been participating each day; just haven't taken photos or blogged about it. I need to start a list as to what has left the house.

    1. I think we've had that heating pad since we were married in 1980. Or maybe hubs had it before we were married - I really don't know. It looks kind of 70's ish. I'd love to see your list, Mrs. T. I bet it would be inspiring.

  4. Hubby said we need to head to Goodwill tomorrow to get rid of what we have found already. Do you work ahead or only look for items for the day you are on? Hubby has decided to clean out an armoire that houses his "treasures" and has a huge pool ile of stuff that needs to go. I have been dividing it up into day #s and cataloging it for the days. I am just happy he has finally agreed we need to get this house decluttered.

    1. Up to this point, it's a combination of things I've found ahead and things I decide on the day of. Tomorrow's things were picked out today since I wouldn't be able to find the time tomorrow. Monday, I think I'm starting from ground zero. I'll probably pick a room or a theme and start gathering things. I have a picture all ready for a day a week or so down the road. It's really fun to read that you two are into this. My hubs is collecting things, too. But today he went to an FOL booksale! And came home with books and DVDs!!! sigh

  5. You are doing so well! I am getting rid of a lawnmower tomorrow as it's broken but getting a new one in its place so I suppose that doesn't count. I will start the decluttering one day.
