Seeing LeftyCrafter (Marsha)'s magazine declutter the other day made me realize I hadn't gone looking there yet.
Normally, I don't keep magazines and catalogs for very long, but hubs had put these in the magazine holder over the last several months and I don't even think I saw them! I'm giving the magazines a quick once over and they are headed for the free shelf at the library.
MIL liked to give us all magazine subscriptions and while I tried to politely decline them occasionally, she seemed confused by it. So the easier thing was to just accept them - I'm sure they were just $5.00 subscriptions. If it made her happy, I could certainly enjoy browsing them before recycling or passing them on. I think I'm kind of relieved to soon not be getting these ad-heavy publications anymore, though.
Also going to the library free shelf will be some audio books and a couple of art books - I was sure I had put The Square Halo into a donation box last year when I did this challenge, but there it was on a shelf when I scanned it for the challenge this month. I must have had second thoughts. ๐ It's bound to happen occasionally, I guess.
Day 22: 307 things gone
Magazines are like rabbits....they multiply quickly. The photo of you going to see a friend is gorgeous. Fall is in full swing there.
ReplyDeleteAutumn in my neighborhood isn't very colorful - yet, anyway. But my friend lives about 45 minutes south and they appear to be about a week beyond peak. already.
Delete$5 magazine subscriptions? Wow - that's unheard of here in Canada. I love to have magazines to peruse while I'm eating my lunch and only get one in the mail anymore because they're well over $20 for a subscription for any of them (and that's only the cheapest ones!!). I do share them though and ultimately they end up in the laundry room in our building for anyone to take.
ReplyDeleteNot all magazines are that cheap, but there are a number of ad heavy magazines that one can get for $5 (or maybe MIL got that rate for renewals). They are so full of ads that are written like articles it's hard to tell you're reading an advertisement - until you do, then you (or at least I) want to do a head slap.
DeleteThere are a lot of magazines I really like but the cost puts me off. DH used to give me subscriptions to a couple of the Somerset ones but they now cost more than buying a 'real' book so they're off my list. Not to say I still don't covet them though!~
DeleteWell that's a golden road. ๐๐งก
ReplyDeleteMagazines do gather; however, a subscription I like is a wonderful gift. The important thing is to cull them regularly. I have kept most of my "vintage" Country Livings gifted by my mom. I still prefer to read them over the new ones. I really am getting old.
I agree. The right magazine subscription is a wonderful gift and a reminder of the giver each month.
DeleteMagazine subscriptions as gifts, throughout the year reminds love ones of the giver. I miss mother's gift magazine in the mail.
ReplyDeleteMy mother has been gone a long time. Over 26 years. I miss her dearly.
DeleteI love seeing a road lined with trees.
