Thanksgiving - after the table was cleared...

Thanksgiving meal was ham, green bean casserole, sauteed zucchini and summer squash, corn casserole, and rolls.  Followed with pecan and pumpkin pies.  A simple meal by some standards, but it was so good.  I only wish I'd gotten a picture of the set table.

After finishing eating, we cleared the table and enjoyed several rounds of Zendo and Century Spice Road - both new games to us.  Then the guys poured over some pictures that husband brought home from his mother's earlier this week.  We ended the evening with stories of when my husband and I were first married.  The guys were pretty good sports as we reminisced.  It helped that we had some doozy stories to laugh at.

It was a good Thanksgiving.  I'm feeling so very thankful for my family and special times together like this.

  1. Sounds like a great day. I love the idea of playing "old-fashioned" games. We spend so much time in front of our computers these days, and even though I love computer games, sitting together at a table, looking at each other and talking is so much more fun.

    1. I love that all my guys enjoy playing games. There's still some looking at phones (honestly... what are people texting or looking at their phones over on Thanksgiving!?!), but having everyone engaged in a game sure minimizes that. Also, laughter after dinner helps with digestion, and playing games usually provides for a healthy dose of that. :)

  2. What a lovely meal and day with your family. I've never heard of those games...are they good? Great ideas for Christmas presents I'm thinking! LOL! So nice to have old pictures and pass down family stories and history.

    1. Zendo is not unlike Mastermind (and yet, it is very different because you're not dealing with just colors and their placement in a line, but you're also adding shapes and the positions those shapes are placed in). You go around the table trying to figure out what the rule is for something that the first person built with plastic shapes (each person building their own structure), and each person's success or failure contributing to the process of elimination until someone finally figures out what the rule is. That's the goal, anyway. I like Mastermind, but this was significantly harder. It was kind of fun, but after a while it made my head hurt. I was relieved when we finally quit.

Century Spice Road I enjoyed more. At first glance, it looks more complicated than it is. My very simple explanation is this: Throughout the game, each player (you) collects 4 different spices and cards that allow you to manipulate your spice "denominations", and you use those spices to purchase point cards (and sometimes coins). The winner is the person who has the most points when the game ends. It's a strategy game that changes because everyone is vying for the same point cards, and as they come off the table new point cards emerge - so your strategy changes as the game progresses. I liked this game a LOT.

    1. The brothers all seem to enjoy each other. As long as we don't bring up politics or sensitive subjects, we seem to be able to get along for a few hours. ;^)
